My hair has been ruined since February 2013 when I stupidly decided getting light brown highlights was a good idea. As my hair is naturally the darkest of brown, I had to get my hair bleached white to then add a brown colour on top – you can read about the disaster here. My hair became so frazzled and weak that I ended up having it all chopped off to a long bob.
Even now my hair is still recovering and appears to be getting thinner. I have tried so many products and treatments but nothing has wow’d me until now. Nanogen kindly offered a sample of their thickening shampoo and conditioner which I eagerly awaited delivery of.
Now because I had tried so many product ranges before, I was skeptical. After reading the instructions, I decided to try these products in the bath as you are supposed to leave them on for a few minutes each.
The shampoo is a clear liquid that when applied to wet hair feels a little like glue. I liked that, as it felt like the product really got into my hair and scalp. I shampoo’d once and rinsed immediately to get rid of product build up, then applied more.
I left it on my hair for 4 minutes
– it recommends 1 minute but I wanted to see what it could do. As I rinsed it felt super clean and not as weak as some shampoos leave my hair. Finally, I applied the conditioner which feels more like a moisturising cream than a standard conditioner. I left this on for a few minutes as suggested and rinsed. My hair felt squeaky clean which I liked.
The products didn’t have a scent, which is usually really important to me. My favourite hair products for their scent are the Umberto Giannini Glam Hair range that are so sweet smelling and last all day long. However, as the Nanogen products seem more scientific and like a treatment rather than luxury, the fact that they had no scent didn’t bother me.
I towel dried my hair then sectioned it off to blow dry. The front sections of my hair are the thinnest but I noticed straight away that they had thickness, volume and bounce.
My hairstyle had more shape than usual, and gained height at the crown making my lob style look like I had just stepped out of the hairdressers.
Very impressed for a standard Tuesday morning blow dry at home.
The volume and strength lasted all day. I had straightened my hair too, but this didn’t affect my hair like it usually does – dropping by 2pm.
So, why does it work? The ingredients include stimulating peptides and hyaloronic acid to help boost the hairs natural cycle of growth, but this doesn’t explain the instant volume after wash 1. I think one of the reasons may be the fact you leave the shampoo on whilst usually you rinse shampoo immediately. It enables the potent ingredients to absorb into the hair strands and scalp.
The products are reasonably priced at £7.95 each and are available from their website or Boots. You won’t find them with the other shampoos and conditioners in Boots though, they are with medicated products near the pharmacy, alongside other hair treatments and supplements for hair loss and growth.
The brand also offer hair fibres that you shake onto the scalp as you would a volumising powder. They look uh-mazing, but thankfully not something I need right now.
If you want strong, thick hair in an instant, I urge you to purchase this. It wins hands down over the other products recently launched such as L’Oreal Elvive Fibrology Thickening range or Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce – which for me, just did nothing.
If you’ve been searching for a wonder product range to help thin hair, then look no further x
