In love with lilac make-up

I first tried a lilac toned lip gloss when I was around 19; it was Kiss You by Benefit which is still going strong today. It was really subtle and managed to brighten my entire face. As with most products, you kinda forget you have them and move onto a new look or product.

When ‘orchid’ was announced as colour of the year by Pantone, all the make up brands jumped on it. And boy am I glad they did! I have been swatching and trying on many different brands and shades of lipstick, blusher and nail polish and have found the perfect products to share with you – saving you the hassle of having your hands covered in lilac :)

Look Beauty Double Hit Lip in Berry Blast £8. This product contains a lipstick which has a matte look to it with the strongest pigment out of all products I tried; including MAC. They other end of the stick has a gloss in the same colour. You can wear them together or either or which I love to take me from day to night.

L’Oreal Color Riche Collection in the Freida Pinto shade (Barely Parma) for £8.19 is my new fave lip colour. I have searched high and low for a dupe and nothing is to be found. It is such an unusual shade; a deep grey, purple. It really, really suits my colouring and is my go-to shade for everyday wear at the moment. You can layer it for more pigmentation – it really is lush.

Lip crayon

As pictured above, the W& chunky lip crayon is awesome for colour and affordability. This was from Xtras for only £2.49! This product doesn’t seem to last too long on your lips, but if you want to test out a lilac shade and are ok with a subtle tint, them try it.

It’s really difficult to find a blusher in this shade. I found one by Stila in Manchester but when teamed with lilac lipstick, it just looked silly – like a painted doll! So, instead I team lilac lips with darker shades of purple-pink blush. My faves are from Sleek – shades Antique and the Sweet Cheeks palette – click here to view the range.

Miss Manga is a recently launched violet coloured mascara by L’Oreal. I was put off from purchasing this initially, as other L’Oreal mascara’s have done nothing for me. But, after reading reviews and seeing pics online I tried it whilst it was still on introductory offer in Superdrug. I love the colour (seen on the pic above) and am impressed with the lengthening effect. They have a cool microsite promoting this with some nifty photo editing tools – check it out.

Have you tried the new lilac trend? It really is a colour that anyone can wear and will brighten your complexion until Spring is upon us.
